Take Alabama out of the equation for a minute — it’s established that the Crimson Tide are No. 1 (no matter how Nick Saban feels about their performance).
But after a bummer of a Week 1 showing, the SEC raised some eyebrows in Week 2.
- Is Texas A&M for real?
- Maybe Tennessee isn’t a pretender after all.
- Was that Auburn’s real offense or just a wildly inferior opponent?
- And how about them Razorbacks?
- And how about them … Bulldogs (woof-woof).
Florida State and Michigan each received first-place votes in the Associated Press Top 25, but not in our poll, where Alabama was a consensus No. 1 pick.
Ole Miss is the highest-ranked one-loss team, having lost to the aforementioned Seminoles in a neutral-site season opener. The Rebels are No. 3 in our rankings, which attests to the fact that voters are struggling to identify the class of the conference beyond Alabama.
What it all means this early in the season, who knows. But the prospects for an entertaining run around the league this season looks a lot more likely.
