Perhaps no media member is more closely affiliated with the SEC than Paul Finebaum. And the popular radio host has made his picks for who will win each division and the conference ahead of this week’s SEC Media Days.
To no surprise, Finebaum picked Alabama to win the SEC West once again on ESPN’s Sportscenter Sunday morning. The Crimson Tide have won the SEC in each of the last three seasons, and they bring back quarterback Jalen Hurts and a number of talented offensive playmakers. If Alabama, the likely media pick this week, were to win the conference yet again, they would join Florida(1993-96) as the only schools to win the SEC four straight times since the conference introduced the SEC Championship Game back in 1992.
As for the SEC East, Finebaum picked the Gators to win the division for the third straight year. Finebaum attributed Florida’s SEC home schedule, which includes five games thanks to last year’s LSU game being rescheduled, as well as concerns about Georgia’s Jacob Eason and his ability to lead the Bulldogs.
If it is Florida and Alabama in the title game, it would be the third year in a row that the two teams will have met in Atlanta. Finebaum likes the Crimson Tide in that matchup, given that the Alabama won the last two matchups 54-16 in 2016 and 29-15 in 2015.
The Crimson Tide open their season on Sept. 2 in Atlanta against Florida State, while Florida takes on Michigan in Dallas on the same day.
