Opposites will face off when BYU and Wyoming meet in a mid-week contest in America’s Finest City.
Despite it being Kalani Sitake’s first year commanding the Cougars, BYU is playing in its 12th-straight bowl game. Then there’s Wyoming. The Cowboys won eight games in the Mountain West Conference and are making their fourth postseason appearance in the last 13 seasons (2004, 2009 and 2011).
BYU might seem like the likely winner, but it’s not as simple as it seems. Wyoming beat Boise State, which was ranked No. 13 at the time, and followed with an upset over San Diego State a couple of weeks later. Things easily could get interesting in this picturesque destination.

Poinsettia Bowl: BYU vs. Wyoming keys to the game
1. Containing the Cougars
Wyoming has let opponents score a lot of points this season, and that could quickly develop into a big problem for the Cowboys. BYU has several offensive weapons even though they lost quarterback Taysom Hill to his fourth season-ending injury at the end of November. Still, Hill’s backup, Tanner Mangum, has had quality in-game experience and is also capable of leading the offense. Jamaal Williams is another problem in the Cougars backfield. The senior running back has rushed for 1,165 yards and scored 11 touchdowns in just 9 games.
2. Don’t let Hill get rolling
Wyoming junior RB Brian Hill ran for 1,767 yards and scored 21 touchdowns this season. He was a large reason the Cowboys put up a lot of points and pulled off some striking wins. He’ll have to be outstanding if Wyoming stands a chance. Hill rushed for 1,631 yards in 2015.
