Few could’ve predicted this at the beginning of the season.
Pro Football Focus released a list of the top 10 quarterbacks in college football through week 7. And three SEC signal callers made the list.
Per Jeff Dooley, Arkansas’ Austin Allen, Ole Miss’ Chad Kelly and Alabama’s Jalen Hurts made the top 10. The list was topped by Louisville’s Lamar Jackson, who at this point is the runaway Heisman favorite.
Allen came in at No. 7 on the list, the highest of the quarterbacks. The first-year starter has thrown for 1861 yards and 18 touchdowns while leading the Razorbacks through a difficult schedule. Allen outdueled Kelly on Saturday night, as the Razorbacks knocked off the Rebels 34-30.
Kelly came in at No. 9. Kelly is just behind Allen, as he’s thrown for 1849 yard and 14 touchdowns. Kelly has also run for 213 yards and three touchdowns. Kelly and the Rebels have another huge test this weekend as they take on the LSU Tigers.
Coming in at No. 10 was Hurts. He is the only freshman to make the list. Hurts has thrown for nine touchdown passes and added in 428 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. Hurts had perhaps his best game against Tennessee this past weekend. Hurts will have another tough test on Saturday as he takes on the No. 6 Texas A&M Aggies.
