As it stands, a trio of SEC programs remain in the running to land a Signing Day signature from Derrick Brown, the No. 1 prospect in the state of Georgia.
Brown, a 5-star defensive tackle recruit from Lanier High School (Buford, Ga.), has a top three of Alabama, Auburn and Tennessee, according to Keith Niebuhr of 247Sports.
That obviously is not good news for UGA and Mississippi State, who were both mentioned in his previously stated group of five finalists.
UPDATE: Brown refuted that he was the source of the report via social media shortly after it surfaced on Thursday. “Haha never gave my top schools “that’s why it said inside source” lol these fans funny,” he tweeted.
Brown will take his final official visit to Tennessee this coming weekend after taking one to Auburn on Jan. 15 and another to Alabama back in December. A majority of the predictions on the 247Sports Crystal Ball had Brown going to the Bulldogs, but he has recently been trending toward Auburn.
Brown is rated the No. 9 overall recruit in the Class of 2016.
