Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart is on his way to UGA, and another SEC defensive coordinator may follow.
Smart wants Auburn defensive coordinator Will Muschamp to serve in the same capacity on his staff, according to Football Scoop.
However, that is not a done deal, as Muschamp — a candidate for a handful of coaching jobs, including South Carolina’s — “might have other things working,” Football Scoop reported.
Auburn had the No. 90-ranked defense in the country in total yards allowed this season under Muschamp.
Previously, Muschamp served as Florida’s coach from 2011-14 and has 13 total years experience coaching in the SEC. Muschamp finished with a 28-21 record at Florida, including a first-place finish in the SEC East in 2012. That season, the Gators defense ranked No. 5 in both total defense and scoring defense.
