If Mississippi State wants to poach Ed Orgeron, the Bulldogs are in for a dog fight.
LSU’s defensive line coach has been in contact with Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen about the Bulldogs open defensive coordinator position, sources told NOLA.com’s James Smith.
However, Orgeron is “extremely pleased” with his position at LSU and remains committed to staying in Baton Rouge, La., according to Smith.
The Bulldogs are offering a deal worth about $900,000, according to The Advocate’s Ross Dellenger.
Orgeron is entering his second year of an $895,000 contract with LSU. Smith reported that the team and Orgeron are in discussions about extending his current deal.
Dellenger reported that Orgeron’s extension could possibly include a raise, one similar to the one LSU just handed defensive backs coach Corey Raymond.
LSU coach Les Miles made it clear he wants to retain Orgeron once the defensive coordinator position opened up.
It looks like Miles and LSU may have to open up their wallets in order to keep the coveted assistant.
