Tennessee starts two freshmen OL against Alabama
Tennessee’s youth will be on display against Alabama.
The Vols will start two freshmen against the Crimson Tide: right tackle Chance Hall and right guard Jack Jones. Both played extensively in the 21-point comeback win against Georgia on Oct. 10 due to injuries to two starters.
Offensive tackle Brett Kendrick was not in the lineup when the Vols took the field against Alabama. Kendrick, who started five games at right tackle, was held out of the Georgia game with an arm injury. The sophomore started the previous five games for the Vols.
Sophomore Jashon Robertson was knocked out of the Georgia game with an ankle injury. He has been nursing the injury since preseason camp. He was also not in the starting lineup on Saturday.
Former center Coleman Thomas moved to right tackle and was replaced by Mack Crowder against Georgia. Crowder was knocked out of the UGA game with a leg injury. That put Thomas back at center and Hall with the first team. Thomas started at center against Alabama.
The Vols lost two offensive linemen in the preseason: starting senior left guard Marcus Jackson and backup sophomore guard Austin Sanders. Both sustained biceps injuries and are out for the season.
Receiver Preston Williams was not available for the Alabama game with an undisclosed injury. The freshman has played in five games this season. He has seven receptions for 158 yards and two touchdowns.
