The fall is approaching, which means it’s time to track the hottest seats in the SEC.
Already, hot-seat talk has started to heat up in the conference. The future for Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze is unknown with all the Rebels’ NCAA trouble, and talk has swirled about Texas A&M coach Kevin’s Sumlin’s standing after disappointing finishes in recent years.
So who has the hottest seats among SEC coaches?
Rivals’ Mike Farrell wrote an interesting piece that ranked SEC coaches on job stability. Be sure to click here to read his complete rankings for the conference and his explanation for each coach’s position. But here’s how his top 5 shook out:
- Butch Jones, Tennessee
- Gus Malzahn, Auburn
- Bret Bielema, Arkansas
It’s hard to argue with many of those names. Freeze and Sumlin, in particular, will face heat this season. And Jones is no stranger to pressure, especially after an anticlimactic end to last season after all the talk to begin 2o16 about possibly winning the SEC East. Then Malzahn and Bielema must show more in a hurry.
As always, it will be fascinating to see how hot these seats become in the fall. It’s easy to envision a few SEC jobs opening up after the season.
