Before growing roots into your couch Saturday for some SEC football, recap some of the more interesting moments of the week courtesy of the conference’s wealth of personalities.
— Fresno State fired head coach Tim DeRuyter. Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin’s name has been tied to the job at his alma mater. However, much bigger jobs likely will come calling for Kiffin.
Why would Lane Kiffin waste his time at Fresno state? He can do sooooooo much better https://t.co/nh2BXs7gO5

— Comedian Jermaine “FunnyMaine” Johnson is a must-watch every Sunday when he reminds all how good life is as an Alabama fan.
— Butch Jones is standing behind his guys, especially underperforming running back Jalen Hurd, who is 123rd in the nation in rushing, ahead of only two backs who have as many carries.
“I’m not concerned with statistics or yards per carry,” Jones said at his Monday news conference. “Jalen Hurd is a great player and one of the best backs in the country, and we’re going to get him the football.”
— Auburn fans win a few games and come out to trash other conference teams.

— Speaking of Auburn’s success, AL.com’s SEC Shorts knows the Tigers secret.
— We all like to crack on Tim Tebow for his baseball aspirations, but after he gave Stephen A. Smith the business, I think we’re rooting for him more now than ever.
—If Nick Saban really was a transformer, we all know he’d be a Decepticon.
Reuben Foster, who calls himself a Ferrari, said Alabama coach Nick Saban is a "private jet."

— ’Tis the season for pumpkins … smashing pumpkins that is. The folks at TexAgs spend entirely too much time carving a New Mexico State pumpkin just to drop it 80 feet for this video.
We carved a NMSU pumpkin … and then dropped it from 80 feet CAUSE THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT WE’RE GONNA DO TO ‘EM, AGS.https://t.co/Np10jLyref

— LSU fans are starting to warm up to quarterback Danny Etling, and so are the students from the Louisiana School for the Deaf and just about anyone with a heart after seeing Etling have a conversation with a deaf boy in sign language.

— In case you were wondering where Ed Orgeron got his powerful, rough personality — it came from his father, who once refused Alabama coach Bear Bryant access to his home to recruit Ed to the Tide.
“Here’s the deal,” Orgeron said. “Bear was going to come to my house, but my daddy told him not to. So no, he didn’t come. Dad said, ‘My boy’s going to LSU.’”
— Gus Malzahn has ditched the visor for the traditional ball cap, and apparently the move is killing visor sales in Alabama.
“It’s taken me forever to get rid of these (visors),” said Maria Traylor, manager at Locker Room by Lids in Opelika (via AL.com).”I could not tell you how many exactly, but I have sold precious few… it’s gone through the floor.”
— CBS is making it really hard to cope with Verne Lundquist’s retirement. Here he shares another great SEC memory.
