SEC basketball coaches were given a grand task in the spirit of Rivalry Week by SEC Network: say one nice thing about their rivals.
That apparently was a little bit out of their comfort range, as most of the men’s and women’s coaches were left looking largely dumfounded.
However, those that were able to muster up a response were spot on in their — perhaps unintentional — comedy.
“No,” South Carolina coach Dawn Staley responded.
“Uhh,” pondered Missouri’s Kim Anderson.
“Say one nice thing about my rival?” Alabama coach Avery Johnson asked … twice for that matter.
“If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything,” uttered UGA’s Mark Fox.
“If it’s your rival, you’re supposed to say something nice?” asked Auburn’s Terri Williams-Flournoy.
“Mark Fox makes me look good-looking sometimes,” South Carolina coach Frank Martin jabbed.
The Gamecocks’ coach seemingly had a step above his counterparts before Kentucky coach John Calipari delivered the walk-off dagger.
“Who’s our rival?” Cal said as the video came to a close.
Well, Coach Cal, this week Kentucky hosts Alabama; LSU takes on Arkansas; Vanderbilt and Florida do battle; and Ole Miss hosts Missouri on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Auburn and UGA go at it; Mississippi State travels to Texas A&M; and South Carolina hosts Tennessee. On Saturday, a large slate delivers Ole Miss at UGA; South Carolina at Mississippi State; Kentucky at Vandy; Texas A&M at Missouri; Auburn at Alabama; Arkansas at Tennessee; and Florida at LSU.
In the women’s game, South Carolina heads to Alabama on Monday night. On Thursday, Arkansas takes on UGA; Missouri plays Kentucky; Texas A&M travels to Auburn; Mississippi State takes on Vanderbilt; Alabama hosts Tennessee; Florida heads to LSU; and South Carolina squares off with Ole Miss.
