DESTIN, Fla. — The following is SEC law: Its schools cannot accept transfers with a history of domestic violence or sexual assault. This much is obvious: That would apply to coaches as well.
This is the part where it gets tricky: What about coaches who were fired by their previous schools for presiding over a program that had too many players accused of sexual assault?
The question, referencing recently-fired Art Briles, was put directly to SEC commissioner Greg Sankey.
“I’m not going to talk about Art Briles at the Southeastern Conference spring meetings,” Sankey said. “Art Briles’ circumstances is about Baylor University, not the Southeastern Conference.”
A reporter followed up: Would he welcome a coach accused …
“I’m not going to speculate,” Sankey said.
