Every Sunday, SEC Country will unveil its offensive and defensive recruits of the week based on their weekend performance. In order to qualify, recruits must have at least two SEC offers.
This week’s SEC Country Offensive Recruit of the Week honors go to Jalen Hurts, an Alabama quarterback commit.
SEC Country’s Offensive Recruit of the Week: Brandon McIlwain
Jalen Hurts got the nod for SEC Country’s Offensive Recruit of the Week honors following an impressive performance this past Friday night. Hurts, a 2016 Alabama quarterback commit, completed 19-29 passes for 358 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. He also ran for 132 yards and four touchdowns on 21 carries in a wild shootout that saw his school Channelview High School (Channelview, Tex.) lose 55-49, according to 247Sports.com’s Brian Perroni.
Hurts has been a runner-up multiple times since the start of the SEC Country Recruit of the Week series. He now becomes the second player from Texas to win the award, joining Texas A&M wide receiver commit Quartney Davis.
The 6-foot-2, 208-pounder is a 4-star dual-threat prospect and committed to Alabama this past June. He is rated as the nation’s No. 5 dual-threat quarterback.

Jacob Eason, QB, Lake Stevens, Wash. — The 5-star quarterback completed 23-of-35 pass attempts for 287 yards and had five touchdowns in his team’s 61-10 first-round playoff win. Eason committed to UGA a year and a half ago, and despite turmoil within the Bulldogs program, remains 100 percent solid with his pledge.
Woody Barrett, QB, Orlando, Fla. — The 4-star prospect had 196 passing yards and two touchdowns. He also added 79 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, according to Elite 11 Director Brian Stumpf. Barrett committed to Auburn this past June. He is rated as the nation’s No. 4 dual-threat quarterback.
Devwah Whaley, RB, Beaumont, Texas — The 4-star prospect rushed for 115 yards and scored three touchdowns on eight carries, according to 247Sports.com’s Brian Perroni. Rumors have circulated on whether or not Whaley is silently committed to UGA.
Jamyest Williams, RB, Lawrenceville, Ga. — The 4-star prospect rushed for 198 yards and scored two touchdowns. Williams is considering UGA, Tennessee, Auburn, among other schools. He is rated as the nation’s No. 6 athlete in the class of 2017.
Tyrie Cleveland, WR, Houston, Texas — The 4-star prospect caught six passes for 205 yards and scored three touchdowns, according to 247Sports.com’s Brian Perroni. Cleveland recently released his top eight and has Arkansas, Florida, Ole Miss and Texas A&M in the mix.
Chadarius Townsend, ATH, Tanner, Ala. — The 4-star prospect ran for 164 yards and scored three touchdowns. He also had 132 passing yards and a score, according to AL.com’s Daniel Boyette. He committed to Alabama this past July.
