Every Sunday, SECCountry.com will unveil its offensive and defensive recruits of the week based on their weekend performance. In order to qualify, recruits must have at least two SEC offers. This week’s SECCountry.com Offensive Recruit of the Week honors goes to Quartney Davis, a Texas A&M wide receiver commit.
SECCountry.com’s Offensive Recruit of the Week: Quartney Davis
Quartney Davis gets the nod for SEC Country’s Offensive Recruit of the Week honors following an impressive performance this past Friday night. Davis, a Texas A&M commit, put up video game numbers in his team’s 49-21 win. The wide receiver had 13 receptions, 256 yards and two touchdowns, according to Brian Perroni of 247Sports.com.
“It all started with the offensive line playing great and the running backs helping out on the blocks to help my quarterback be able to throw great passes, and that’s what he did,” Davis told the AJC’s SECCountry.com.”
The 4-star prospect from Langham Creek High School (Houston, Texas) committed to Texas A&M back in June.

QB Jake Fromm, Warner Robins, Ga. (committed to Alabama): A day before committing to Alabama, the 4-star quarterback from Houston County High School had a good day at the office. Fromm led his team to a 44-12 win, and he completed 12 of 15 passes for 219 yards and five touchdowns, according to Hank South of 247Sports.com. The 2017 signal-caller committed to Alabama while he was on an unofficial visit this past Saturday for the Arkansas game.
QB Joey Gatewood, Jacksonville, Fla. (undecided): The 4-star quarterback from Bartram Trail High School rushed for 248 yards on 18 carries and had 67 passing yards, according to Matt Potak of the Florida Times-Union. Most importantly, he ran in the go-ahead two-point conversion to give his team a 52-51 overtime win. Gatewood has Auburn in his top three.
RB Toneil Carter, Houston, Texas (undecided): The 5-star running back, who is teammates with this week’s SEC Country Offensive Recruit of the Week, also had a great game. He rushed for 170 yards and four touchdowns on 17 carries, according to Brian Perroni of 247Sports.com. Carter is rated the nation’s No. 2 running back in next year’s class. The 5-foot-11, 198-pounder does not have any leaders and says he may commit early, according to Taylor Hamm of 247Sports.com.
RB Najee Harris, Antioch, Cali. (committed to Alabama): The 5-star running back only had four carries in his team’s game, but he put up crazy numbers. The nation’s No. 1 running back for 2017 rushed for 126 yards and three touchdowns, according to coach Nate Smith. Harris committed to Alabama in April.
RB Jamari Peacock, Yulee, Fla. (undecided): The 3-star running back rushed for 128 yards on 20 carries, scored three touchdowns and had three two-point conversions, according to Dennis Bergin of the Florida Times-Union. In a recent interview with Chris Nee of 247Sports.com, the 2017 prospect said Florida was in his top three.
RB Zack Moss, Hallandale, Fla. (committed to Miami): The 3-star Miami running back commit had 211 total yards and three touchdowns, according to David Furones of the Miami Herald. Moss committed to Miami over Kentucky, Tennessee, among others.
WR Velus Jones, Sarland, Ala. (committed to USC): The 3-star Southern California commit finished Friday’s game with 233 all-purpose yards and four touchdowns, according to Ben Thomas of AL.com. Despite his commitment to USC, Jones has been spotted at Florida’s and UGA’s summer recruiting camps. Jones committed to USC in April.
ATH Jay Jones, McAdory, Ala. (undecided): The 3-star athlete from McAdory High School completed 14-of-19 passes, threw for 220 yards and scored four touchdowns. He also ran the ball 20 times for 113 yards, according to AL.com’s Gary Estwick. Jones has offers from Alabama and Auburn.
