The SEC may not be loaded with top quarterbacks, but part of the reason for that may be the abundance of top defensive backs.
Even with Vernon Hargreaves and Keanu Neal both going in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft, NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein still has plenty of SEC player on his top defensive backs to watch for 2016 list.
Coming in at No. 1 is Florida’s Jalen Tabor. Despite playing in a loaded secondary last year, Tabor was still a force as the then sophomore hauled in four interceptions. Now as a junior he will have to fill the lead role that Hargreaves left behind.
Right behind Tabor is Marlon Humphrey from Alabama. Humphrey is the highest ranked Alabama defender. As a freshman, Humphrey hauled in three interceptions, placing him just behind Eddie Jackson who had six.
Coming in at No. 5 and 6 is a pair of LSU defensive backs in Tre’Davious White and Jamal Adams. Adams finished with a team-high four interceptions and is already being mentioned as a first round pick in next year’s draft. White is a senior that has a lot of the measurables that NFL coaches look for at the next level.
Coming in at No. 10 on the list Florida defensive back Marcus Maye. Maye had two interceptions last year and will look to fill Neal’s role as a force in the running game.
