Kentucky true freshman sensation Benny Snell continues to garner national attention.
In Pro Football Focus’ weekly ranking of the top true freshmen in college football, Snell came in at No. 3 overall. He trailed only Houston DT Ed Oliver and Clemson DT Dexter Lawrence. He was the highest ranked true freshman in the SEC.
Three other SEC players made the top 10. Alabama OT Jonah Williams (No. 6) and QB Jalen Hurts (No. 7) both made the list. South Carolina QB Jake Bentley came in at No. 8.
“Snell catapults up to the third spot, as he had another big day against Georgia,” PFF’s Josh Liskiewitz wrote. “He rushed for 114 yards on 21 carries and had two scores against the Bulldogs, but his most impressive feat was the nine missed tackles he forced.”
The Wildcats’ tailback now has 775 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns on the season while averaging 5.6 yards per carry.
Liskiewitz said Williams “continues to be a star for Alabama in pass protection” with an 83.3 pass protection grade that ranks second in the SEC.
Hurts dropped four spots from No. 3 in last week’s rankings.
“Hurts got the job done against LSU with his feet,” Liskiewitz said, “but it’s his passing that dropped him to seventh. On ten pressured drop-backs, he completed just one of six pass attempts (for -2 yards) and had a 0.0 QB rating.”
Liskiewitz also said that’s it’s “officially time” for Gamecock fans to get hyped up about Bentley.
“He’s started just three games,” Liskiewitz said, “but has been a superstar in all three. He’s been particularly outstanding on throws at least 10 yards downfield, as he has completed 16 of 24 throws for 238 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions.”
Florida OT Jawaan Taylor and Texas A&M RB Trayveon Williams dropped out since last week’s rankings.
