It didn’t take Jim McElwain long to be noticed in Florida. The first-year Gators’ coach received Coach of the Year consideration after hammering UGA, 27-3 on Saturday.
“Jim McElwain should be mentioned for coach of the year; not only in this conference, but the country.” former LSU defensive lineman Booger McFarland said on the SEC Network halftime show during the Tennessee-Kentucky game.
In what was supposed to a rebuilding season for the Gators, McElwain has led Florida to a 7-1 record. The Gators are 5-1 in the SEC. If Florida can beat Vanderbilt or South Carolina in their final two SEC games, the Gators will represent the East Division in the SEC Championship game.
