As he does each Friday, SEC Network analyst Booger McFarland joined the Paul Finebaum Show to talk SEC football and pick Saturday’s slate of games.
McFarland didn’t stray far from the chalk this week, taking Tennessee (-14) over South Carolina, Auburn (+1) over Ole Miss and Kentucky (+4 1/2) over Mizzou. He favored the hot hand over history, with Auburn and Kentucky both riding recent streaks that have propelled them past pundits projections thus far this season.
In the rivalry game of the week, the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party, McFarland went with a Florida team that is still, conceivably, in the hunt for the College Football Playoff. Meanwhile, it has been a disappointing season, no doubt, in Kirby Smart’s first year helming the Georgia program. But in game that is, year in and year out, one of the most unpredictable in college football, maybe McFarland’s pick of the favorite won’t pan out.
McFarland picked correctly in three of his four predictions last week, but, boy, he missed big on one — and apparently learned his lesson, not picking against Auburn again this week.
