Here is the right side to be on for the entire slate of Week 4 SEC action. As always, opinions are expressed for “entertainment purposes only.” Follow the advice below at your own risk, and past performance is not necessarily indicative of future results, which in most instances is probably good news. The picks:
South Carolina -14.5 vs UCF
Steve Spurrier was interviewed this week on the Golf Channel which is appropriate considering his handling of the South Carolina program of late has been sub-par. He can’t lose them all though, right? UCF seems like the perfect opponent for a Gamecocks team that could use an easy win.
Georgia vs. Southern
No posted line because the Jaguars are an FCS team. Quarterback Greyson Lambert set records for passing last week and UGA fans set records for how quickly they were able to change their tune about the formerly struggling signal-caller. To hear them tell it now, they knew he had it in him all along.
Syracuse +24 vs LSU
LSU travels to Syracuse this weekend which means it is a great time to live in Upstate New York and be in the Tabasco Sauce or brown liquor business. Both will be on short supply by Sunday morning. LSU wins, but not as easily as those taking the road trip would like.
Florida +1.5 vs Tennessee
The annual Florida-Tennessee game is a little like an old person’s birthday. It used to be a big day on the calendar, but lately it is just something many kind of try to ignore. The Gators may be a little better than some people think though, and this game will be better than it has been in years.
Alabama –38 vs Louisiana-Monroe
Louisiana-Monroe would be a really great name for a cool blues musician. It is however not the name of a football team capable of covering the spread in Tuscaloosa.
Texas A&M -7 vs. Arkansas
For a football team called the Hogs it probably helps to have a coach who is a bit of a ham. Arkansas certainly has one in Bret Bielema. This makes Bielema extremely popular with the media, but not so much with his coaching colleagues. Kevin Sumlin will enjoy the easy win that Kliff Kingsbury predicted last week.
Vanderbilt +24.5 at Ole Miss
There are some great traditions in Oxford like tailgating on The Grove, getting dressed up for games and complaining about seven-loss seasons. This is the year where that last part changes. The Rebels are going somewhere, but expect Ole Miss to be sluggish while winning against Vandy on Saturday. A town that knows all about hangovers will experience the football kind this week.
Mississippi State +3 at Auburn
A quarter could be flipped to pick the winner of this game, but it would not be smart to bet that coin on the outcome. The Bulldogs are the best guess though because the decision to bench Jeremy Johnson is probably Gus Malzahn’s worst choice since making the turtleneck his signature item of clothing.
Kentucky -2.5 vs Missouri
It has been said that misery loves company. Missouri on the other hand does not draw much of a crowd. This is especially true on Saturday in the Bluegrass State where most of Big Blue Nation has already started thinking about basketball. Kentucky will cover and no one will notice.
