The aim of SECCountry.com’s SEC Recruiting Rewind is to bring you pertinent recruiting news across the conference. We’ll get you caught up to speed with the latest on commitments, decommitments and everything in-between.
Today’s need-to-know stories
1. LSU lands commitment from 4-star LB and in-state prospect
LSU’s rise in the AP Poll has certainly paid dividends on the recruiting trail.
Michael Divinity, a 4-star linebacker from Marrero, La., committed to LSU on Sunday.
The 6-foot-2, 218-pound product from John Ehret High School has long been considered a strong lean to the Tigers. Last month, Divinity told the AJC’s SEC Country that the program’s proximity to home and 3-4 defensive scheme were favorable. He has also developed a strong relationship with running back Leonard Fournette, whom Divinity acknowledged has been a mentor to him on recent recruiting visits.
Divinity spurned Texas A&M, Florida State, Oregon and Ole Miss. He is rated as the No. 5 overall player in Louisiana.
2. 4-star QB Jake Fromm spurns Ole Miss, South Carolina for Alabama
Alabama landed its first quarterback commitment in 2017 over the weekend. Jake Fromm, a 4-star from Houston County High School (Ga.), took an unofficial visit to Alabama on Saturday, when he broke the news to coach Nick Saban.
Fromm caught up with the AJC’s SEC Country on Sunday to explain how the decision came to fruition, and it’s certainly one you should read.
3. SEC Country’s Recruits of the Week
This week’s honors go to Quartney Davis (Houston, Texas), a Texas A&M commit, and Nigel Warrior (Suwanee, Ga.), one of the nation’s top uncommitted prospects. Davis put up 13 receptions for 256 yards and two touchdowns on Friday, while Warrior registered five tackles, two interceptions and a 46-yard reception touchdown.
4. Nation’s No. 1 TE to take official visit to Alabama
Isaac Nauta, the No. 1 tight end in this year’s class, has opted to take an official visit to Alabama in lieu of one to USC.
The change in plans comes on the heels of recent reports that USC coach Steve Sarkisian has taken a leave of absence due to an undisclosed personal issue.
The 5-star from IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) will be in attendance for the Alabama-LSU game on Nov. 7.
5. Florida lands commitment from 4-star WR Freddie Swain
Freddie Swain, a 4-star receiver out of Citra, Fla., committed to the Gators during a ceremony at North Marion High School.
This hardly comes as a surprise. Swain has long been considered a heavy Florida lean. Per 247Sports.com’s Crystal Ball predictions, 94 percent of the votes pegged him going to the Gators.
Swain chose Florida over Miami, LSU, Tennessee, USC and South Carolina.
The 6-foot-1, 188-pounder gives Florida its 21st commitment in next year’s class and the fifth 4-star recruit overall. He joins Joshua Hammond (Hallandale, Fla.) as the second 4-star receiver to commit.
