SEC Recruiting Rewind: Ole Miss holds an advantage for 4-star DB
The aim of SECCountry.com’s SEC Recruiting Rewind is to bring you pertinent recruiting news across the conference. We’ll get you caught up to speed with the latest on commitments and de-commitments and everything in between.
Today’s need-to-know stories
1. Ole Miss holds a clear advantage for 4-star DB
Shyheim Carter, one of the top uncommitted prospects in the country, told SEC Country that the Rebels are taking a significant interest in his family, more than other contending schools. In fact, Ole Miss has every intention on hosting he and his two children on a visit this fall.
Carter, who decommitted from Alabama in August, is considered a strong lean to UGA, per 247Sports.com’s Crystal Ball predictions. He went into detail on where he’ll take his official visits this fall and how much of an influence his best friend’s commitment to UGA will have on his recruitment here.
2. Five-star QB and Aggies commit: ‘We have a much better offense than Alabama’
No. 10 Alabama (5-1, 2-1 SEC) heads West this Saturday for a conference showdown with No. 9 Texas A&M (5-0, 2-0 SEC), and several recruits will be tuning in.
SEC Country polled a handful of commits and targets from both programs for their prediction of this weekend’s much-anticipated contest — and only one pegged Texas A&M as the winner (Tate Martell, a 5-star quarterback).
The remaining recruits picked Alabama in a landslide. You can check out the full list of predictions here.
3. Four-star DT is fully committed to Arkansas despite interest from other SEC programs
Briston Guidry says he’s 100 percent committed to Arkansas, but three other SEC programs continue to recruit him heavily.
Guidry, a 4-star defensive tackle from Archbishop Rummel High School, told SEC Country that Tennessee, Texas A&M and Mississippi State remain in contact with him. However, none of the schools appear to be making a serious push.
“None of them are really disrespecting Arkansas like that,” Guidry told SEC Country. “We’re just talking. Nothing disrespectful like that with trying to flip me.”
4. Kentucky lands commitment from 3-star QB Walker Wood
Dual-threat quarterback Walker Wood committed to Kentucky on Thursday, just a week after receiving an offer from the Wildcats.
The 3-star from Lexington, Ky., has reported three offers thus far, but was long considered a lean to Kentucky, per 247Sports.com. Wood becomes the fifth recruit to verbally commit to the program in the class of 2017.
He is rated as the No. 5 overall player in Kentucky.
5. SEC Country’s Friday Night Spotlight: Quintarius Neely
This week’s SEC Country Friday Night Spotlight features Quintarius Neely, a dual-threat quarterback from Roswell High School (Roswell, Ga.). The unranked signal-caller holds two offers, including one from Army, but is hearing from several other programs (Illinois, Georgia Southern, among others).
