In an strange moment on Saturday night in Lexington, Ky., every player on both Tennessee and Kentucky received personal-foul penalties after a brawl following a kickoff, no matter if they were involved in the play or not.
The SEC issued a statement in response to an inquiry by SEC Country on the call:
Team unsportsmanlike penalties were issued on the play in question. Rule 9-2-6 states that any player, coach or identified squad member who commits two unsportsmanlike conduct fouls in the same game shall be disqualified.
The penalties came back to bite both teams, as Tennessee starting linebacker Daniel Bituli and Kentucky’s Davonte Robinson were both ejected following their second unsportsmanlike penalties in the first half.
