SEC schools move up with one of Florida’s top recruits
Less than a month ago, Ole Miss was at the forefront of Drake Davis’ recruitment.
But the 4-star receiver from Florida’s IMG Academy tells the AJC’s SECCountry.com that he no longer has any favorites.
Both LSU and Texas A&M are as much in the mix as Ole Miss. Two other programs, Florida and UGA, appear to be making ground as well.
The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder confirmed that he’ll likely be in attendance for either Florida-Tennessee or Ole Miss-Vanderbilt this weekend for an unofficial visit.
Where he plans to visit officially later this year, though, remains unknown. But Davis did confirm that he will take one official visit during the season to Ole Miss on Nov. 21 when the Rebels face LSU. The rest of his recruiting trips will come during the offseason.
“That’s one for sure I’m going to do,” Davis told the AJC’s SECCountry.com. “That’s the only one so far.”
According to 247Sports.com’s Crystal Ball predictions, Davis has long been considered a strong Ole Miss lean. His teammate at IMG, Shea Patterson, is a 5-star quarterback and the gem of Ole Miss’ 2016 recruiting class. But Davis is adamant that Patterson’s commitment won’t influence his decision.
However, he certainly holds Ole Miss in high regard. Davis is in agreement with the notion that Ole Miss has become the perennial team in the SEC West following Saturday’s win over Alabama.
“For sure,” Davis said. “They’ve proved themselves in many games, and I feel like they’ve worked hard to get to the position where they are now.”
Davis says he’ll likely announce sometime around National Signing Day, after initially telling the AJC in August that he wanted to announce his decision midway through the season.
He is rated as the No. 23 player in Florida.
