“No Experienced Required” will air on Sept. 6 at 9 p.m. ET and highlight former Aggies coach Jackie Sherrill’s decision in 1983 to create a special teams unit with only walk-on players. That 12th Man kickoff team allowed only 13.1 yards per return, and over the next five years, the unit would rank in the top five of yards per return, leading the nation twice in that span.
Per a release by ESPN, “The few who made it went from being disrespected by their scholarship teammates and ridiculed by the press as a publicity stunt, to becoming the most feared kickoff team in America.”
One week later and also at 9 p.m. ET comes “Repeat After Us,” a story of the Gators’ back-to-back national titles in 2006 and 2007 under former coach Billy Donovan. No team has repeated as NCAA basketball champions since Donovan’s Gators accomplished that feat.
