The Super Bowl LI matchup is officially set, as the New England Patriots will take on the Atlanta Falcons. And both teams feature a number of former SEC players.
Atlanta features the likes of Julio Jones of Alabama and Jalen Collins of LSU. The Patriots, meanwhile, boast the likes of Alabama LB Dont’a Hightower and Texas A&M tight end Martellus Bennett.
Jones had a huge game on Sunday, as he hauled in 180 yards and 2 touchdowns. Collins also forced a fumble for the Falcons in their win against the Green Bay Packers. Meanwhile, Jonathan Jones of Auburn had a huge hit on special teams in the Patriots’ win against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Alabama, LSU, Rutgers and Stanford all have four players in the game, which is tied for the most by any one school. Ten SEC teams have players participating in the game.
In total, 21 SEC players will be taking part in the Super Bowl. Kickoff between the two teams is on Feb. 5 at 6:30 P.M. ET on FOX. The game will be played in Houston. The last time the game was played in Houston, the Patriots knocked off the Carolina Panthers.
Only active players are included. Those that are on injured reserve or the practice squad are not included.
