South Carolina has yet to land a 4-star recruit for the Class of 2018, but the Gamecocks are in the running for an elite defensive tackle prospect.
Alim McNeill, a 6-foot-2, 272-pound recruit from Sanderson High School in Raleigh, N.C., released a list of his top 10 schools on Thursday. South Carolina is the only SEC school, sitting among half of the ACC and two Big Ten schools.

Even more interesting is the fact that McNeill recently visited Florida during a spring break trip, but the Gators didn’t make his top 10. In fact, he also holds offers from Arkansas and Tennessee among several other top programs, but no other SEC schools apparently hold his interest.
McNeill attended the Gamecocks’ spring game and enjoyed the experience, with coach Will Muschamp telling McNeill that he has a chance to make an early impact in Columbia.
McNeill is rated as the No. 207 overall prospect in the recruiting cycle and the No. 19 defensive tackle, according to the 247Sports composite ranking.
He made an unofficial visit to South Carolina on April 1. Since then, he’s made two unofficial visits to North Carolina and one to Clemson as five of his 10 schools are from the Carolinas.
