College basketball season is just about here. And that means it’s time to put out the initial rankings.
The preseason AP Poll came out on Monday, with Kentucky being the only SEC team to appear in the poll. On Tuesday, we got a better picture of what people thought of every SEC team, as Sports Illustrated‘s Dan HAnner and Luke Winn ranked every team in Division I, from No. 1 Duke to No. 351 Florida A&M.
As was the case in the AP Poll, Kentucky led the way. Winn and HAnner had the Wildcats ranked No. 3, sitting just behind Duke and Kansas. The Wildcats will have a chance to prove they are better than the Jayhawks when the two teams play on Jan. 28. Kansas and Duke will also play each other in the Champions Classic on Nov. 15. Kentucky plays Michigan State in the same event. The Spartans are ranked No. 28 by Sports Illustrated.
As for the rest of the SEC, several teams are further down the list. Florida is ranked second among SEC teams at No. 31 and Texas A&M comes in at No. 37. Along with Kentucky, those are the only three teams ranked in the top 50 by Sports Illustrated.
|Texas A&M||No. 37|
