Sunday could be quite awkward for Steve Spurrier, given that two schools he coached at are playing for a trip to the Final Four.
When asked by former South Carolina wide receiver Pharoh Cooper who he was rooting for in the South Carolina-Florida Elite Eight game, Spurrier gave a classic and diplomatic response.
SEC East all the way, PhAroh! https://t.co/iUo15TZfEL

Spurrier, who is currently an ambassador at Florida, coached at South Carolina from 2005-2015 and was the head coach at Florida from 1990-2001. Regardless of who wins, the SEC already has greatly benefited from the Gamecocks’ and Gators’ long tournament runs. Along with Kentucky, the SEC has three teams in the Elite Eight. No other conference has more than one.
This also will be the second matchup in this tournament between schools where Spurrier was the head coach. South Carolina and Duke met in the second round, with the Gamecocks emerging victorious. Spurrier was the head football coach of the Blue Devils from 1987-89.
The Gators and Gamecocks split their two matchups in the regular season and tip at 2:20 p.m. ET on CBS on Sunday.
