Tim Tebow knows a thing or two about big games at “The Swamp,” and first-year Florida coach Jim McElwain is about to experience his first from the home sideline.
McElwain joined the set of SEC Nation in Gainesville, Florida, on Saturday morning. Tebow reminded him of the importance of his team’s clash with Tennessee later in the day.
“Coach, we know that every game in the SEC is a big one, but some games are just a little bit different and for Florida fans, this is one of them,” Tebow said. “This is a huge game.”
“This is the one?” McElwain playfully responded with Florida fans near the set roaring behind them.
Tebow asked McElwain about how he prepares his players for a important game.
“I think one of the biggest things is understanding that the game is going happen,” McElwain said. “It is going to be here. Saturday is going to come. It’s really how you prepare through the week, starting on Monday. Our guys are starting to get that.”
McElwain was SEC Nation analyst Greg McElroy’s position coach at Alabama, and he wanted to know more about the coach’s latest pupil, redshirt freshman quarterback Will Grier.
“In Will’s case, he did a great job with his feet in a couple situations last game and yet, maybe a little early,” McElwain said. “It’s time to let it develop and go through your read progression. Now, if your feet are the checkdown then let’s go ahead and take it.”
Coach McElwain joins the SEC Nation set to talk about Florida’s preparation for big games and QB Will Grier’s development.
