Jalen Hurts, Alabama’s true freshman quarterback, continues to get better and better.
Eight weeks into the season, Hurts ranks the highest of any SEC quarterback in the Top 10 rankings created by Pro Football Focus, coming in at No. 8 and moving up two spots since last week.
Hurts helped the Crimson Tide top Texas A&M, 33-14, to move them to 8-0 and keep them as the top-ranked team in the nation. Pro Football Focus noted that Hurts wasn’t perfect, but “as usual he more than made up for any struggles in the passing game with his running ability.”
Hurts also had 102 rushing yards and a touchdown.
Another pair of SEC quarterbacks round out Pro Football Focus’ Top 10 — Arkansas’ Austin Allen and Ole Miss’ Chad Kelly.
The Razorbacks have struggled to protect Allen, but Pro Football Focus notes “he has managed to play remarkably well despite this, and has excelled as a downfield thrower on his way to being one of the highest-graded QBs in the country.”
Kelly may have had rough performances against Florida State and Arkansas earlier in the year — and his team may have lost to LSU last week — but he remains in the Top 10 because of his ability to complete deep passes.
