AUBURN, Ala. — A pair of SEC schools have caught the attention of one of Georgia’s premier defensive ends.
MJ Webb, a four-star prospect out of Madison, Ga., told SEC Country over the weekend that Auburn and Georgia are ‘standing out’ in his recruitment. Webb visited Auburn this past weekend for the program’s Junior Day after checking in with South Carolina a week earlier.
Webb was hesitant to declare any official leaders.
“I enjoyed both of them,” Webb said of his visits. “(Coach Will) Muschamp was over here and was a part of my recruitment. Now, he’s over there and I have a great relationship with him. It’s going to be a good competition between Auburn and South Carolina for me.”
The 6-foot-3, 265-pound rising senior is rated the No. 7 strongside defensive end in the 2017 cycle and has remained a top target for Auburn. Over the weekend, Webb spoke at length with defensive line coach Rodney Garner, his lead recruiter, and coach Gus Malzahn.
What was the fourth-year head coach’s message?
“He was just like, ‘You know you like it here,’ and kidding around with me and all that stuff,” Webb said of Malzahn. “He really wants me over here. He said I fit in here. He is right. I do fit in here, but I have to see how the recruiting process plays out for me.”
Webb will likely visit Georgia this weekend as part of a string of unofficial trips. His decision will come later in the season.
