If South Carolina had a play drawn up on a particular out-of-bounds play early in the second half of the Gamecocks’ Elite 8 tilt versus the Florida Gators, it’s safe to say it didn’t go as plan. Up against the 5-second clock, a quickly forced pass ended up in the hands of CBS Sport broadcaster Verne Lundquist.
Despite it being a poor inbounds pass, “Uncle Verne” showed his agility, quickly reacting to ball heading in his direction.

Not bad for a 76-year-old in a suit jacket.
CBS News reporter Jim Axelrod interviewed Lundquist in a television story released Sunday morning prior to the All-SEC Elite 8 matchup between Florida and South Carolina. The feature followed the sports broadcaster into his hometown and revealed another side to Lundquist other than his great broadcasting career.
His ability to cooly grab a loose ball along the sidelines is just another reason why we all love “Uncle Verne”.
