There are fewer than 100 days until the opening of the college football season on Aug. 27, when California travels to Hawaii. Those countdown clocks are already ticking even as campuses empty out with the end of the school year.
Las Vegas though is not waiting. The early round of over/unders have been released by South Point Sports Book, giving us a first look at the potential SEC standings and who could be bowl bound this year.
Taking the over/under marks at face value, Alabama and LSU are favored to win the SEC and battle it out in the SEC West. Tennessee is the early favorite to win the SEC East.
Here are the complete SEC over/unders:
Alabama — 10
LSU — 10
Ole Miss — 8.5
Arkansas — 7.5
Auburn — 6.5
Mississippi State — 6.5
Texas A&M — 6
Tennessee — 9.5
Georgia — 8.5
Florida — 7.5
Kentucky — 5
Missouri — 5.5
South Carolina — 5
Vanderbilt — 5
Alabama and LSU are two of six teams with over/under totals at 10 or better. Oklahoma, Clemson and Michigan are the others with Boise State leading the way with an over/under of 10.5 wins. Gamble on these at your own peril.
These are not predictive in any sense. But as any gambler knows, lines like these are set to generate action on both sides. They are set so the same number of people bet the over as they would the under. And college football, itself, is generally unpredictable.
But no one should be surprised that these three teams have emerged as the favorites in the conference and even nationally.
