Colin Cowherd believes Butch Jones should be the odds on favorite to be the first coach fired

Vegas releases odds for first coach fired; Colin Cowherd says Butch Jones should be the favorite

While many hope that their team will win a national title this year, some fans are hoping that they see a coaching change.

And one Sports betting site  SportsBettingDime has published a list of odds for who the first coach that could be fired. The odds on favorite is Jim Mora who opens at 9/1.

A number of SEC coaches, however, rank high on the list. Bret Bielema comes in at 16/1 and Gus Malzahn is just behind him at 17/1 odds. Kevin Sumlin is at 18/1 odds and just a little further down is Butch Jones at 30/1.

But Colin Cowherd thinks Jones’ odds should be much, much higher.

“First of all, if there is a hot seat, the guy at Tennessee — Butch Jones — should be the leader in the clubhouse at 2-1,” Cowherd said on his radio program. “They play Georgia Tech and Florida in the first three weeks. He loses one he could be fired. Two? He’s done. He’ll be fired by Week 3.”

Despite Cowherd’s opinion, Jones doesn’t seem to be on much of a hot seat. Most of the Tennessee fans back Jones as their coach and Phillip Fulmer came out this week and emphatically backed Jones.

“People ask, ‘If he doesn’t win nine or 10 games do you get rid of him?’” Fulmer said earlier this week. “Are you kidding me? We just went through that, have y’all paid attention the past four or five years?”

Jones also has the Volunteers rolling on the recruiting trail, as Tennessee has the No. 1 class in the SEC in the 2018 recruiting cycle. And Tennessee has won 9 games and finished ranked in the top 25 in each of the last two seasons.

Tennessee opens its season on Sept. 4 against Georgia Tech at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
