Tennessee sent a pair of coaches to visit Jonathan Kongbo on Tuesday.
Defensive coordinator Bob Shoop and defensive line coach Steve Stripling represented the Vols. The two are both integral in the recruitment of Kongbo, a four-star defensive end from Arizona Western Junior College (Yuma, Ariz).
Stripling has been involved with the junior college standout since the Vols began recruiting him. Shoop has a different challenge. He has to build a relationship with Kongbo after taking over as Tennessee’s defensive coordinator earlier this month.

The timing of Tennessee’s visit may prove significant. Kongbo, who is the No. 1 junior college prospect in the country, was reportedly ready to cut down his list of finalists from eight to four on Monday, but never did so. Kongbo told SEC Country that Alabama will be among that final grouping. Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban visited Kongbo on Monday. Kongbo is scheduled to take his official visit to Tuscaloosa, Ala. this weekend.
Kongbo committed to Tennessee during an official visit in November but then re-opened his recruitment earlier this month. The 6-foot-6, 254-pound prospect took official visits to Ole Miss in October and to Oregon State in November. He told SEC Country that he is considering taking his final official visit to Southern California, Florida State or Oregon.
