News travels quickly in Kentucky.
Hours after ESPN.com’s Jeff Goodman reported that LSU star Ben Simmons is ineligible to win the Wooden Award, Wildcats fans taunted the freshman with a “G.P.A.” chant on Saturday afternoon.
Simmons (19.7 points, 11.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists this season) is one of the country’s best players, but his work in the classroom has not met the standards of nation’s most prestigious individual award.
“From what I was told, he didn’t meet all of the requirements,” LSU coach Johnny Jones told Goodman. “He wasn’t certified by the school to be on the ballot.”
The Wooden Award requires, among other things, a 2.0 grade-point average.
