Kirk Herbstreit revealed his pick for the best team in the College Football Playoff during an interview with Jimmy Kimmel.
On Monday, Herbstreit joined ESPN College GameDay colleagues, Lee Corso and Desmond Howard, for an appearance on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! Toward the end of the interview, Herbstreit named Oklahoma “as the team to beat going in” because of the Sooners’ offensive potential.
You can watch the entire appearance with the ESPN personalities below. Herbstreit speaks about his pick starting at the 6:55 mark.
Of course, Georgia will have something to say about Oklahoma’s chances of winning a national championship with Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Baker Mayfield leading the Sooners’ offensive attack. The SEC champion Bulldogs and Big 12 champion Sooners meet in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1 in what should be a fantastic showdown between Oklahoma’s potent offense and Georgia’s strong defense. The Bulldogs finished second in the SEC in scoring defense by allowing 13.2 points per game.
Meanwhile, Alabama and Clemson meet in the Sugar Bowl in the other national semifinal the same day. Even if Oklahoma beats Georgia, the Sooners will face a big test against either the Crimson Tide or Tigers in the national championship game in Atlanta.
The fun almost is here, everyone.
