This doesn’t look good.
On Friday night, Rice’s Marching Owl Band appeared to make a “nine” in roman numeral form when performing its halftime act during the Owls’ loss to Baylor. As mentioned by the Daily Mail, the Rice announcer asked if there were “‘nine judges on the Supreme Court or is it…?”
However, the “nine” looks like a reference to Title IX. Of course, multiple Title IX lawsuits have been filed by victims after a sexual assault scandal rocked Baylor.
Here’s more from the Daily Mail’s post:
MOB then split and reformed to create a star to the song “Hit The Road, Jack” — a nod to disgraced former Baylor president Ken Starr who was demoted before he eventually resigned following the scandal.
Rice took one final shot at their rivals with an ‘N’ formation which, according to the announcer, stands for ‘knowledge if you get educated in Wacky Waco.’

However you view this situation, the band’s act seems pretty harsh. It will be interesting to see what comes of the aftermath.
