What Kirk Herbstreit said on ESPN’s College GameDay

Kirk Herbstreit was back with more SEC thoughts.

On Saturday, the ESPN analyst had opinions about the conference on College GameDay. As always, he delivered a few revealing takes.

Here are some of the highlights from the morning:

— Herbstreit said Jim McElwain’s offense needs to have a big day for the Gators to beat Tennessee. He said Florida’s defense also must come up big for the Gators to earn a victory at home. He said he doesn’t know if Florida can recover from a 0-2 start.

— Herbstreit said he wants to see how McElwain will handle the quarterback situation. He wonders which quarterback in the Florida-Tennessee game will avoid a major mistake late. He doesn’t imagine many points will be scored in the game. “First one to 21 points might win.”

— Herbstreit is big on Mississippi State, saying the Bulldogs can beat LSU on Saturday night in Starkville.

— Herbstreit said Gamecocks wide receiver Deebo Samuel returning kicks is “dangerous” for Kentucky. Still, he said the Wildcats’ defense is athletic and experienced and will be a big key to knocking off South Carolina.

— Herbstreit said the LSU-Mississippi State game is a test for the Tigers. He said Nick Fitzgerald is ready “to explode” this season and that we’ll learn more about LSU offensive coordinator Matt Canada in this game in Starkville.

— Herbstreit said Purdue will beat Missouri on the road.

— Herbstreit picked Kentucky to beat South Carolina.
