Kirk Herbstreit was back with more SEC-related thoughts on ESPN’s College GameDay.
The ESPN analyst touched on multiple issues Saturday concerning the SEC before the SEC Championship Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta between Auburn and Georgia. He and the rest of the GameDay crew were in Charlotte to help preview the ACC Championship Game between Miami and Clemson.
Here are some of Herbstreit’s notable SEC takes:
— He said Vols officials “caved in” during the Tennessee fan protests last Sunday, after the reported hiring of Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano. He said the situation was “unprecedented” and that fans were given a voice by uniting.
— He said Alabama doesn’t have as strong of a resume if Ohio State beats Wisconsin. He made it seem like the Buckeyes would receive the nod over the Crimson Tide for the fourth spot in the College Football Playoff, if it came down to a debate between Alabama and Ohio State.
— He enjoyed seeing Nick Saban on the set. He agreed with the Alabama coach that Auburn is playing some of the best football of anyone at the moment.
— He said he was thinking that he would pick Georgia all week because of the emotional factor involved in the game after Auburn routed the Bulldogs earlier this season. But in the end, he picked the Tigers to beat Georgia for the second time this season, after listening to Saban’s analysis of the teams.
