Kirk Herbstreit was back Saturday morning to drop knowledge on ESPN’s College GameDay.
As expected, many different SEC-related topics were discussed. Below are a few of the highlights:
— Herbstreit had tough words for Ole Miss and Oklahoma. He said if either lose today, “this thing could become completely unraveled,” when referring to their respective seasons. He said it’s a real possibility for a 7-5 or an 8-4 campaign for either team with a loss Saturday.
— Herbstreit has faith in Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin. Herbstreit said the Crimson Tide assistant will come up with a quality plan against Ole Miss. Herbstreit thinks Kiffin will put quarterback Jalen Hurts in a position to succeed.
— Herbstreit didn’t hold back when describing Kentucky. Of the Wildcats, he said, “They need a win. Bad.”
— Herbstreit said Ole Miss’ D-line better step up, because the Rebels’ secondary is vulnerable. But he said the story will be Hugh Freeze’s offense going up against Nick Saban’s defense. Herbstreit said the running game will be huge for the Rebels; if the Crimson Tide stop Ole Miss’ ground attack, that will create pressure on Rebels quarterback Chad Kelly. Herbstreit thinks Hurts will run the ball like crazy.
— Herbstreit thinks LSU must be careful against Mississippi State. He thinks Bulldogs coach Dan Mullen has one of the most underrated teams in the conference, and Herbstreit predicted that Mississippi State won’t be intimidated going into Tiger Stadium.
— Herbstreit thinks Auburn has been in a great spot, and he likes Sean White running the Tigers’ offense. He says we’ll find out a lot about Texas A&M quarterback Trevor Knight in this game.
— Herbstreit picked LSU to beat Mississippi State, but he thinks the Bulldogs’ defense will keep the score close.
— Herbstreit called Auburn-Texas A&M “intriguing,” and he picked the Tigers to pull it out at home.
— Herbstreit picked Alabama to beat Ole Miss. He said the Crimson Tide’s defense is “too good.”
