The game we’ve been waiting for is finally here.
Despite some early season struggles, Tennessee is still undefeated, and the Vols are hoping to continue that streak while they buck a trend that has gone against them over the past decade. On the other hand, Florida has shown plenty of good and bad on its way to a 3-0 start, but with quarterback Luke Del Rio going down last weekend, the Gators have plenty of questions entering a huge rivalry game.
Here is what a few national media outlets are saying about the showdown between Florida and Tennessee:
- It’s been well-documented that Florida has won 11 straight games over Tennessee, but just how much does that streak really impact the Vols heading into Saturday? CBS Sports’ Jon Solomon takes a look at just how serious Tennessee fans take the losing streak.
- Speaking of the streak, 2004 was a really long time ago. That point becomes even more evident when SB Nation’s Morgan Moriarty broke down 17 things that happened the same year Tennessee last defeated Florida.
- Rivalry games are so much better with trash talking. Florida cornerback Quincy Wilson thinks so, having referenced the Gators as trucks and the Vols as ducks. But despite the off-field talk, Tennessee is putting that on the back burner, writes the Associated Press.
- There’s no denying the folks in Knoxville have been eying this season for a few years now. So, with that being said, it’s imperative that Tennessee gets over the Florida hurdle before it can think of any bigger goals. CBS Sports’ Gary Danielson agrees.
