The Auburn to South Carolina pipeline continues.
Auburn interim defensive coordinator Lance Thompson is joining Will Muschamp’s coaching staff at South Carolina as the Gamecocks new assistant head coach of defense and defensive line coach.
“I’m excited to have Coach Thompson join our staff,” said Muschamp. “He did a great job calling the Auburn defense in their bowl win over Memphis. He has coached multiple positions throughout his career and has a great understanding of our defensive system. He will be an outstanding addition to our staff.”
Thompson joined Auburn’s coaching staff as a linebackers coach prior to the 2015 season. He previously coached at Alabama on three different occasions, the last from 2012-14.
Thompson and Muschamp were both assistant coaches at LSU in 2002-03.
Former Auburn coaches Travaris Robinson and Bobby Bentley have also joined the Gamecocks’ coaching staff.
