Urban Meyer won two national championships at Florida, but new South Carolina coach Will Muschamp recalled an interesting tidbit Monday about his first day on the job replacing Meyer.
During his introductory press conference at South Carolina, Muschamp said former Florida president Bernie Machen had a simple message for him.
“Clean it up,” Muschamp said Machen told him about the football program.
Meyer was wildly successful with the Gators, but earned criticism for a high number of off-the-field incidents and arrests. Muschamp went 28-21 in four years with the Gators.
“We did a lot of things well. We left a program much better than we inherited it,” Muschamp said.
Gators fans might disagree, given the lack of success on the field, and new coach Jim McElwain has had to suspend several Muschamp recruits in 2015.
