Happy Thursday, South Carolina fans.
First-year Gamecocks coach Will Muschamp has extended his reach to the New Orleans area, where South Carolina has suddenly jumped into the mix with some of the top uncommitted talent in the 2016 class.
Here are two things to know:
- South Carolina extended an offer to Kristian Fulton, the nation’s No. 4 cornerback. Fulton now has 12 SEC offers, but LSU, Arkansas and Florida are considered the most likely conference landing spots.
- Highly touted recruiting target D’Andre Christmas-Giles expanded his top five to an SEC-heavy top 10, which included South Carolina. The Gamecocks were one of the more recent teams to offer the New Orleans defensive tackle, which originally cracked his top five.
Other South Carolina news from around the Internet
- The Big Spur’s J.C. Shurburtt wrote that Muschamp’s in-state focus should pay off. Muschamp will have nine coaches recruiting the state of South Carolina, which has produced numerous NFL players over the past couple of years.
- The State reported that new early signee Chris Smith could play either offense or defense for the Gamecocks. Smith, who played at South Pointe High School (Rock Hill, S.C.), is considered a “multi-position” athlete that will see time at cornerback, but also compete for a spot on the offensive side of the ball.
