Happy Wednesday, Gamecocks fans.
South Carolina received some … interesting news on Tuesday, which can only make us smile. Pair that with some actually encouraging news on the recruiting trail.
Here are two things to know:
- South Carolina kicker Elliott Fry made a major announcement. Actually, he just held a mock press conference to suggest he should be Gamecocks’ starter at quarterback in 2016. So, will Will Muschamp give him a shot?
- South Carolina is still in the fold for Atlanta safety and Auburn commit Marlon Character. The safety flipped from South Carolina to Auburn in November, but admitted the Gamecocks have a chance thanks in part to Muschamp and defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson.
Other South Carolina news from around the Internet
- 247Sports’ J.C. Shurburtt spoke with T.J. Brunson on his recent commitment to South Carolina. The three-star linebacker from Charleston, S.C. has been around the program for a while — dating back to Steve Spurrier’s tenure — and was the first prospect Muschamp visited after his introductory press conference.
- The State’s Phil Kornblut wrote that two South Carolina commits are giving Mississippi State a closer look. Defensive lineman Cecil Stallings and offensive lineman Lloyd Cushenberry have been committed to the Gamecocks since last summer, but Stallings just visited Starkville, Miss., and Cushenberry is making the official visit there this weekend.
