Word of Marion Hobby’s departure from Clemson will shake things up for 5-star defensive end Xavier Thomas, and that could be good news for South Carolina.
Hobby, who served as the Tigers defensive ends coach, is headed back to the NFL, to work as the defensive line coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
On Wednesday night, Thomas tweeted that Hobby’s departure “will most definitely effect my recruitment.”
Thomas, who’s currently enrolled at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., recently announced that South Carolina and Clemson are his finalists. However, he’s also left the door open for Florida State, the first school to offer.
Hobby isn’t the only major departure from the Clemson coaching staff. Defensive tackles coach Dan Brooks made his retirement official last Saturday.
Thomas, who is originally from Wilson High School in Florence, S.C., is the No. 1-ranked strong-side defensive end in the class of 2018 and the No. 2 overall prospect in the country.
