South Carolina’s Alaina Coates didn’t have to wait long to hear her name called on Thursday night in the WNBA Draft.
The senior center was drafted No. 2 overall by the Chicago Sky, the highest draft pick in Gamecocks history.
Coates averaged a double-double this season, scoring 12.9 points per game and grabbing 10.7 rebounds per game as a senior. Coates was named to the All-SEC second team in her first two seasons on campus before being a first-team All-SEC pick in her junior and senior years as a Gamecock.
