The past month was an amazing ride for South Carolina fans. Not only did the Gamecocks become the toast of women’s college basketball, but South Carolina’s men’s squad reached the program’s first Final Four after winning the East Region as a No. 7 seed. The men’s team lost to Gonzaga on Saturday in Glendale, Ariz.
On Sunday, A’ja Wilson paced South Carolina with 23 points. Allisha Gray followed with 18.
The victory marks a breakthrough moment for coach Dawn Staley’s program. Entering the Final Four, UConn was the heavy favorite to claim another national title. But the Huskies’ 111-game winning streak was snapped when Mississippi State beat them in thrilling fashion on Friday.
Now, South Carolina has earned the chance to enjoy a big party.
