The biggest South Carolina recruiting development of the afternoon wasn’t from Day 4 of the Will Muschamp Football Camp. Instead, it was 4-star cornerback Chris Steele tweeting about his official visit.
Steele, the No. 4-ranked cornerback in the Class of 2019, according to the 247Sports composite, tweeted on Friday afternoon that he will return to South Carolina next weekend for his official visit. The 6-foot-1, 188-pound prospect from St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, Calif., is ranked as the No. 39 overall player in the country.
Four-star quarterback commitment Ryan Hilinski also will make the cross-country trip next weekend, though it will be as an unofficial guest. He took an official visit to South Carolina earlier this spring.

Day 4 of camp featured a handful of 2020 prospects, including Calhoun County guard Tyshawn Wannamaker, who committed to the Gamecocks in April. The 6-foot-4, 320-pound 3-star lineman is ranked as the No. 13 guard in the country, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
Irmo-Dutch Fork wide receiver Jalin Hyatt, who lists an offer from Duke, was among the camp standouts on Friday. During the 1-on-1 portion of the session, Muschamp pulled him aside to chat. Offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach Bryan McClendon spoke with Hyatt (6-2, 165) and his parents at the camp’s conclusion. Quarterbacks coach Dan Werner also spoke to them.
Werner had plenty of face time with 2020 quarterback Tee Webb (6-3, 170) from Cartersville (Ga.) High School, where Clemson freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence played. Webb, the No. 18-ranked pro-style quarterback in the country, according to 247Sports, lists offers from Kansas State, Louisville, Rutgers and Temple.
Running backs coach Bobby Bentley worked with Rahjai Harris, a 2020 prospect from Byrnes High School in Duncan, S.C. Bentley used to coach the Rebels. East Carolina and Appalachian State have offered.
Another notable running back, Tony Mathis, was in attendance on Friday. Mathis, a 2019 class member from Cedartown, Ga., is the No. 68 prospect at the position. He lists offers from Louisville, Purdue, Wake Forest and West Virginia.
